"This is not peace. It is an armistice for 20 years." -Ferdinand Foch, 1919
DC WWI Memorial
Part of the War Memorials Tour

"The war to end all wars" was started by the assassination of a single man and quickly turned into a war between five great empires. WWI was so significant that it resulted in the demise of four of the empires. Every single map of Europe that existed had to be redrawn to show the vast array of new borders between nations.

The DC WWI Memorial stands in remembrance of the citizens of the capital city who gave everything they had during the worldwide conflict. This Doric style temple was the first war memorial to be built on the National Mall.
