Located at 1801 E Street SE, the Congressional Cemetery is a historic cemetery known for the prominent figures buried there. Founded before the Civil War, today it has over 55,000 graves. Famously, there are graves of figures of the past who have been Vice President, Supreme Court Justice, Senator, Representative, and even one director of the FBI. Some of these famous names include William Thornton (Designer of the Capitol), J. Edgar Hoover, Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill, and temporarily 4 Presidents and even first lady Dolley Madison.
